About Camera Obscura

Camera Obscura is a beloved Scottish indie pop band that emerged from Glasgow’s vibrant music scene in 1996. Founded by vocalist and guitarist Tracyanne Campbell, percussionist John Henderson, and bassist Gavin Dunbar, the band quickly became a defining force within the UK’s twee pop movement. Their early sound drew frequent comparisons to Belle and Sebastian, especially after their debut album, "Biggest Bluest Hi-Fi" (1996), was produced by Stuart Murdoch and earned them a coveted session on John Peel’s influential radio show.

Over the years, Camera Obscura has crafted a rich discography that balances heartfelt melodies with sophisticated arrangements. Albums such as "Underachievers Please Try Harder" (2003) and "Let’s Get Out of This Country" (2006) solidified their reputation, with the track "Lloyd, I’m Ready To Be Heartbroken" becoming a standout indie anthem. Their 2009 release, "My Maudlin Career," marked a commercial breakthrough, entering the UK Top 50 and US Top 100 charts, propelled by the hit single "French Navy." Following the release of "Desire Lines" in 2013, the band returned in 2024 with "Look to the East, Look to the West," reuniting with producer Jari Haapalainen. This album beautifully blends their original charm with refined musical maturity, cementing Camera Obscura’s lasting impact on indie pop music.
