About City of the Sun

City of the Sun is a New York-based instrumental trio formed around 2010-2011 by John Pita and Zach Para. Known for their inventive fusion of post-rock with indie rock, American folk, flamenco, and blues, they create a cinematic and worldly sound often compared to Rodrigo y Gabriela and Explosions in the Sky. The band initially gained recognition as street performers in New York City, captivating audiences with their dynamic live shows. Their growing reputation led them to perform at prestigious platforms such as TED Talks and Sofar Sounds, as well as produce striking live videos filmed in diverse locations worldwide.

Their breakout moment arrived with the 2016 live album "to the sun and all the cities in between," which debuted at number 12 on the Billboard Jazz Albums chart. The album’s standout single "Everything" soared to number two on Spotify’s US Viral 50, amassing over 16 million streams. Following a successful European tour in 2017, City of the Sun released the "UNTITLED EP," featuring the lead single "Perfect Instance," which garnered more than four million streams within its first month.

The trio has shared stages with acclaimed artists like Peter Bjorn & John, G.Love, STS9, and Thievery Corporation, and performed at major festivals such as Firefly and BottleRock Napa Valley. They also expanded their artistic reach by composing the soundtrack for the documentary *The C Word*, narrated by Morgan Freeman, solidifying their status as innovators in the contemporary instrumental rock scene.
