About Perfume Genius

Perfume Genius, the stage name of Seattle-based musician Mike Hadreas, has established himself as a powerful and evocative voice in indie music since emerging in the late 2000s. Born in 1981, Hadreas draws heavily on his experiences as an LGBTQ artist, channeling themes of alienation, desire, and resilience through a unique blend of chamber pop and intimate rock. Over the course of his seven albums, Perfume Genius has gained acclaim for combining raw emotional vulnerability with a haunting, empathetic vision.

His seventh album, "Glory" (2020), marks a notable evolution in Hadreas’s creative journey. Departing from his earlier solo-focused approach, the record embraces full collaboration with longtime producer Blake Mills, partner and co-songwriter Alan Wyffels, and a distinguished ensemble that includes guitarists Meg Duffy and Greg Uhlmann, drummers Tim Carr and legendary Jim Keltner, and bassist Pat Kelly. This collaborative spirit lends the album a muscular yet pristine sound, balancing macabre humor with deeply human storytelling. Hadreas explores tensions between public exposure and personal isolation, transforming complex emotions into accessible and luminous music.
