About A Guy Called Gerald

A Guy Called Gerald, born Gerald Simpson in Manchester, stands as a pioneering force in British electronic dance music. Emerging in the late 1980s, he played a foundational role in the UK’s acid house movement, gaining widespread acclaim with the 1988 classic "Voodoo Ray." As a founding member of the influential collective 808 State, he also helped shape the sound of "Pacific State" (1989), a track that remains emblematic of early British rave culture. Beyond acid house, A Guy Called Gerald significantly influenced the evolution of jungle and drum and bass, laying down creative blueprints that inspired generations of producers.

Across a prolific career spanning over thirty years, he has released eleven studio albums, consistently embracing artistic independence and refusing to yield to commercial trends. His innovative spirit shines through not only in his studio work but also in his dynamic "Live in Session" performances, where his distinctive "true school" style electrifies audiences worldwide. Gerald’s remix portfolio features an impressive array of collaborations with acclaimed artists such as David Bowie, The Stone Roses, Tricky, Cabaret Voltaire, and Lamb, underscoring his versatility and industry respect.

Still an active presence on the global club and festival circuit, A Guy Called Gerald remains committed to pushing electronic music’s boundaries. His enduring legacy cements him as a visionary architect of British dance music and a vital source of inspiration within the electronic music landscape.
