About Metronomy

Metronomy is the innovative musical project led by Joseph Mount, a versatile multi-instrumentalist and producer who transformed it from a lo-fi side venture into a dynamic force in contemporary electronic and indie rock music. Founded in 1999 with nothing more than an old computer gifted by his father, Metronomy initially began as Mount’s solo experiment before expanding into a full band featuring keyboardist and saxophonist Oscar Cash—Mount’s cousin—and bassist Gabriel Stebbing. Early releases like the debut album "Pip Paine (Pay the £5000 You Owe)" (2006) displayed an eclectic blend of influences ranging from Aphex Twin and Kraftwerk to David Bowie and Talking Heads, setting the stage for their signature fusion of electronic textures with catchy, unpredictable songwriting.

Metronomy's ascent to wider recognition came with their sophomore album "Nights Out" (2008), which earned double silver certification across Europe supported by hits such as "Heartbreaker." Their critical and commercial breakthrough arrived with 2011’s "The English Riviera," a polished, sophisticated record that earned a Mercury Prize nomination and marked a peak in their evolution with sleek, sun-soaked synth-pop. Subsequent albums showcased Mount’s fearless exploration of various genres: the Motown-inspired "Love Letters" (2014), the funk-tinged nostalgia of "Summer 08" (2016), and the experimental, new wave-infused "Metronomy Forever" (2019), which featured collaborations with producers like Mr. Oizo.

In recent years, Metronomy has continued to diversify their sound, releasing the hip-hop-flavored "Posse EP, Vol. 1" (2021) featuring artists such as Biig Piig and Sorry. Their latest album, "Small World" (2022), crafted during the global pandemic, encapsulates an optimistic and concise pop aesthetic while retaining their trademark wit and sonic inventiveness. Over two decades, Metronomy has remained a consistently engaging and genre-defying presence, blending inventive production with memorable melodies that continue to captivate audiences worldwide.
