About JT

JT, born Jatavia Shakara Johnson, first rose to fame as one-half of the Miami-based hip-hop duo City Girls, alongside Yung Miami. Known for their unapologetic, bass-heavy anthems celebrating female empowerment and hustle culture, City Girls quickly carved out a prominent place in contemporary rap. Their debut album, "Girl Code" (2018), featured hits like "Act Up," while their follow-up, "City on Lock" (2020), solidified their impact with tracks such as "Jobs." JT's dynamic presence also extended through high-profile collaborations, including their feature on Drake’s chart-topping single "In My Feelings" (2018). Despite facing personal setbacks, including a brief incarceration, JT’s resilience kept her trajectory strong within the industry.

In addition to her work with City Girls, JT has cultivated a solo career marked by versatility and emotional depth. Her solo releases, including the acclaimed albums "Echoes" (2018) and "Midnight Roads" (2021), showcase her talent for blending heartfelt lyrics with innovative production. Singles like "Lost in Time" and "Shadow Dance" highlight her ability to connect with a broad audience, earning significant chart success and critical praise. In late 2024, JT formally launched her solo journey, proving her range beyond the duo and reinforcing her reputation as a sharp lyricist and magnetic performer. With a growing fan base and a commitment to evolving her artistry, JT continues to influence modern music, inspiring a new generation of artists with her authenticity and storytelling prowess.
