About ANOHNI

Anohni, born in 1971, is a groundbreaking artist renowned for her pioneering work in art pop and experimental music. Emerging as the visionary force behind the transgender pop collective Anohni and the Johnsons, she has garnered acclaim for her distinctive songwriting and powerful advocacy for transgender rights. Over the years, Anohni has become celebrated for blending emotional vulnerability with incisive social and environmental commentary.

Her sixth studio album, "My Back Was a Bridge for You to Cross" (2023), marks a profound artistic and philosophical evolution after a seven-year hiatus since her critically acclaimed "Hopelessness" (2016). This deeply personal yet politically charged record interweaves intimate reflections with urgent global issues, exploring themes of spirituality, human connection, and the inseparable bond between souls and the natural world. Drawing inspiration from pioneering musicians who raised environmental concerns decades ago, Anohni delivers a uniquely feminine and spiritual perspective that challenges listeners to reconsider collective responsibility.

Throughout her career, including her collaborations with Hercules and Love Affair and others, Anohni has consistently pushed boundaries in sound and identity. Her music masterfully harmonizes complex and often contrasting elements, reinforcing the power of art to unite diverse perspectives. "My Back Was a Bridge for You to Cross" stands as a testament to Anohni’s enduring commitment to renewal, activism, and the transformative potential of music.
