About Andy Stott

Andy Stott, an electronic musician hailing from Oldham near Manchester, has carved a distinct niche in contemporary electronic music through his evolving and adventurous sound. Launching his career with the "Replace EP" (2005) on the Modern Love label, Stott initially focused on high-quality dub techno, showcased in his debut album "Merciless" (2006). Over time, his music expanded into a rich fusion of hardcore techno, post-punk, and dream pop influences, blending eerie atmospheres with gritty, textured rhythms.

His breakthrough came with the 2011 mini-albums "Passed Me By" and "We Stay Together," celebrated for their sludgy, unsettling beats that Stott humorously labeled "knackered house." This critical acclaim set the stage for "Luxury Problems" (2012), his first album to chart on Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Albums, notable for the haunting operatic vocals of Alison Skidmore, whose voice became integral to Stott's signature sound.

Subsequent releases such as "Faith in Strangers" (2014), "Too Many Voices" (2016), inspired by grime and avant-garde collaborations, and the double EP "It Should Be Us" (2019) further solidified his reputation for marrying vivid sound design with live instrumentation. Despite a brief hiatus, Stott returned in 2021 with "Never the Right Time," offering a lighter, emotionally resonant style that demonstrated his continuing evolution. Beyond his solo work, Stott has explored collaborative projects under aliases like Andrea and with Millie & Andrea alongside Miles Whittaker, highlighting his versatility within electronic music’s ever-shifting landscape.
