About DJ /rupture

Jace Clayton, known professionally as DJ /rupture, is a Boston-born, Madrid-based DJ and producer celebrated for his pioneering fusion of global sounds and electronic music. Since relocating to Madrid in 1999, he founded Soot Records, a label dedicated to promoting artists who blend digital audio innovation with traditional musical forms. DJ /rupture gained widespread acclaim for his genre-defying mix albums *Gold Teeth Thief* and *Minesweeper Suite* (2002), the latter weaving together approximately 60 tracks using a combination of three turntables and intricate post-production techniques.

His eclectic style breaks conventional DJ norms by artfully combining Jamaican MCs, female rappers, post-rock bands, jazz legends, breakbeat, and diverse global influences from Africa, Europe, America, and the Arab world. Unlike typical bootleg or mashup culture, DJ /rupture’s mixes emphasize sonic disruption alongside seamless beat-matching, creating dynamic sound collages that challenge and expand electronic music’s boundaries. Through Soot Records, he supports artists like Mutamassik, who explore innovative intersections between classical regional music and modern hip-hop. DJ /rupture’s work remains an adventurous cross-cultural dialogue, continually pushing the art of DJing into new, uncharted territories.
