About Muna

Muna is an influential indie pop trio from Los Angeles, formed in 2013 by lead vocalist and songwriter Katie Gavin, guitarist and keyboardist Naomi McPherson, and guitarist Josette Maskin. The band’s origins trace back to their time as college friends at the University of Southern California, where they began crafting a unique sonic identity that blends synth-pop, electropop, and power pop. Muna’s music is marked by emotionally charged lyrics and infectious melodies, creating anthems that resonate deeply with queer and marginalized communities.

Throughout their career, Muna has artfully woven themes of pain, longing, and resilience into their uplifting soundscapes. Their breakthrough moment arrived with the song "Life’s so fun," which emerged as a beacon of positivity during challenging times, particularly in 2021. This era also saw a notable evolution in their sound after signing with Dead Oceans, Phoebe Bridgers’ label, following earlier releases under RCA Records. The band embraced a brighter, more radiant tone, reflecting a celebration of joy as a powerful act of defiance.

Muna’s work has earned critical acclaim and a devoted fan base, establishing them as a powerful voice in contemporary American pop music. Their commitment to authentic storytelling and sonic innovation ensures their place as trailblazers within indie pop, continuously pushing boundaries while championing inclusivity and emotional honesty.
