Agostino Steffani (1654–1728): La Superbia d’Alessandro (1690), concertante scenic performance
Description
The Herrenhausen Baroque concert series traditionally ends with the final concert of the Steffani Festival Week Hannover. “La Superbia d’Alessandro”, the pride and hubris of Alexander the Great, is the theme of the second Carnival opera that A. Steffani composed in 1690 for the grand opera house at Leineschloss. Together with his librettist Ortensio Mauro, he created a moral lesson on how success and power can go to a ruler’s head, a phenomenon that can be observed in the media almost daily today.
Besides the disturbing parallels to current political constellations, it is above all the indispensable love stories that provide wonderful vocal moments. International soloists guarantee a great emotional and musical experience.
An event of Forum Agostino Steffani e.V. in cooperation with the City of Hanover.
