Description
The season opener of the ODEON Concerts series in the Allerheiligen-Hofkirche is the 1st concert entitled “First Steps”. The unique architecture of the church in the Munich residence creates the perfect setting for a listening experience that offers a unique focus.
“Between the Lines” – this is the theme of the next 6 concerts. A central anchor point of the programme is Dmitri Shostakovich, one of the most important composers of the 20th century. His life and work were massively shaped by the political upheavals of the Soviet era. His music tells of the constant balancing act between conformity and artistic self-realization – of fear and distress, but also of dignity, hope and inner freedom.
Against the backdrop of current political tensions, his work, framed by compositions by Debussy and Schubert, gains special relevance. It impressively shows us that culture is always greater than the politics of a state – and that art can create understanding where politics leaves people speechless.
Come in, take a seat and let yourself be carried away by the sounds in the church – a rare, refreshing pause in the rhythm of the city. Accompanied by the moderation of Dr Tobias Reichard, music and space merge into an arc of tension that lingers on.
