BRANKA SINGS CLARA
It has been 43 years since Brazil felt the loss of Clara Nunes, but the premature death of the singer did not prevent her voice from remaining in the affectionate memory of Brazilians. The song of the Sabiá bird still echoes and continues to inspire different generations of artists like Branka, a singer from Curitiba, who showcases the full strength of this inspiration in the show “Branka Sings Clara.”
The artists share similar stories, as they both began their careers singing other musical genres. It was only after immersing themselves in the samba circles and samba schools of Rio de Janeiro that they emerged as sambistas in body and soul. Branka and Clara are the two sides of a reflection separated by time and united by samba.
The repertoire includes hits such as “Você passa e eu acho graça,” “Conto de areia,” “Menino Deus,” “O mar serenou,” “Nação,” among other successes. On stage, Branka sings alongside Carlinhos 7 Cordas, her producer and musical director of the show. The ensemble also includes three percussionists, cavaquinho, brass, accordion, guitar, and choir.
Branka comments: “This show is very special to me. The irreplaceable Clara left us longing, but she gifted us with her memorable work that teaches and moves me whenever I revive it on stage!”
