⭐ McGill Classics Play presents a new adaptation of Sophocles' Antigone, written by Caroline Little and Madelyn Mackintosh based on a literal translation by Adam Zanin. At once ancient and strangely premonitory, Antigone asks: What do we owe to the dead? What do we owe each other? And when tyranny threatens the world we know, what risks do we face if we look away?

Description
McGill Classics Play is a non-profit company committed to providing Montreal university students with a unique educational experience, while fostering cultural exchange with our Montreal community around ancient texts. Each year, Classics Play offers a brand-new translation of an ancient Greek or Latin text in various venues across Montreal. Previous productions include Aristophanes' Lysistrata, Euripides' Medea, Seneca's Phaedra, and many more.
In this new adaptation of Sophocles' play, Antigone returns to a city fractured by war and numbed by victory, eager to forget her wounds and celebrate her survival. In this context, Creon ascends to the throne: newly invested with power, draped in civic virtue, and determined to restore order at any cost.
His first decree brands Antigone’s brother a traitor and condemns his body to rot on the battlefield as a warning to those who might defy the will of the state. But in mourning and furious, Antigone chooses conscience over complicity.
