- May 6th - Fruitvale Station: Black Panther director Ryan Coogler’s debut feature film reconstructs the final 24 hours of Oscar Grant III (Michael B Jordan), a young black man who on New Years Day 2009 was gunned down by Californian police. The film is a moving drama about the harsh reality of African America lives, brought to life in an incredibly compelling way with Michael B Jordan’s career defining performance.
- June 17th - I am Not your Negro: In I am Not Your Negro film director Raoul Peck envisions the book James Baldwin never finished – a radical narration about race in America, through the lives and assassinations of three of his friends: Martin Luther King Jr, Medgar Evers and Malcolm X. Narrated by Samuel L Jackson, this captivating films tells the story of infamous historical events through the eyes of one of the worlds most impressive social critics.
- July 22nd - Free Angela and All Political Prisoners: A captivating documentary that chronicles the life of a young college professor Angela Davis and how her social activism implicates her in a botched kidnapping attempt that ends with a shootout, four dead and her name on the FBI’s 10 most wanted list. Told in Angela’s own words, this documentary puts colour to the story of one of the most iconic revolutionaries in recent years.
