Performing at the Seaport Music Festival tonight are two great acts. Kicking it against sexism and homophobia, nothing is off-limits, drawing inspiration from DIY scenes as well as post hardcore and the art rock of The Velvet Underground and My Bloody Valentine, Joanna Gruesome offer a staggeringly diverse sound, unexpectedly quiet and surprisingly loud. Big Ups are a punk rock band from New York City. The band is comprised of drummer Brendan Finn, vocalist Joe Galarraga, guitarist Amar Lal, and bassist Carlos Salguero Jr. They played their first show on the roof of Joe’s apartment building because no one would book them. Since then, they've been playing all over the city- in bars, basements, kitchens, and backyards.
