Stefanie Gutheil: The Home of Mr. Peeps

Berlin-based artist Stefanie Gutheil invites you into her kaleidoscopic imagination in her fourth exhibition at the Mike Weiss Gallery. “The Home of Mr. Peeps” is a utopic landscape of chromatic and psychological vibrancy, a work featuring horned beasts, laser beams, onesies, a brass marching band, multi-talented chickens, the original stooge named Krampus, and a giant pink elephant, all coming together to form a hallucinatory version of Noah’s Arc. Gutheil manages to unravel the traditional fables and take apart their raw, jumbled materials, setting off the viewer’s curiosity and leaving the gallery a fascinating sanctuary of the bizarre.
