On Wednesday, April 15, 1874, at 8 p.m., a key moment in art history was about to unfold. Some thirty painters, including Monet, Pissarro and Renoir, gathered in photographer Nadar's studio to exhibit 165 works outside the official Salon. A daring, provocative and revolutionary event: the very first Impressionist exhibition.
