Description
Baxter Dury is a key figure on the British music scene, known for his originality and his ability to blend intelligent lyrics with a sound that moves fluidly across genres. His debut album, Len Parrot’s Memorial Lift, marked the start of a career defined by records that explore both personal and social themes through an eclectic and deeply engaging style.
His latest project, I Thought I Was Better Than You, represents a new phase in his career. As expected, the storytelling remains sharp and thoughtful, but it is the music that truly stands out—melancholic, yes, yet utterly compelling. The album can also be seen as an extension of Dury’s 2021 book, Chaise Lounge, in which the performer vividly recounts moments from his childhood. Perhaps most striking is the record’s freer aesthetic and its clear hip-hop influence, which make it feel almost like the perfect soundtrack to the book itself.
