His debut album, Len Parrot's Memorial Lift, marked the beginning of a career filled with albums that explore personal and social themes with an eclectic and engaging approach. Baxter Dury's latest project, I Thought I Was Better Than You, marks a new phase in the performer's career. As you'd expect, the narrative remains sophisticated and well-constructed, but it's the music that really stands out - melancholy, yes, but deeply engaging. This album can also be seen as a kind of extension of Baxter Dury's book, "Chaise Lounge" (2021), in which the Performers vividly and engagingly recount his childhood memories. Perhaps the most interesting thing is the way it explores a freer aesthetic, with clear hip-hop influences, making it almost a perfect soundtrack for the book itself.
