Come on out for a free concert in the park Friday evening. Esperanza Spalding is a critically acclaimed artist, whose music is a “sprawling collage of jazz fusion, Brazilian, and even a touch of hip-hop.” She became the first ever jazz arist to win the Best New Artist Grammy in 2011. Her newest project, Emily’s D+Evolution, rekindles her childhood interest in theater, poetry and movement and delves into a broader concept of performance. The show will also feature José James, whose breakout 2013 album sounded “like the result of the black-pop continuum, jazz and soul and hip-hop and R&B, slow cooked for 50 years.” -Doors open at 6:30 -No alcoholic beverages, glass bottles, or recording devices permitted -Food and water are allowed, but no coolers -Feel free to bring blankets and lawn chairs
