Description

Whether performing with his band, as a guest, or solo with a looper pedal and piano, Michael Mayo’s commanding and otherworldly vocal style has earned him global critical acclaim. A graduate of the prestigious Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Performance (now the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz), Mayo has studied under jazz legends like Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock. A veteran international performer, Mayo has been a featured vocalist at The White House, the Kennedy Center, and Renée Fleming’s American Voices Festival. His own band has graced renowned stages such as The Hollywood Bowl, Monterey Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, and The London Jazz Festival. He has also recorded and performed with Herbie Hancock, Jacob Collier, Scary Pockets, Lenny Kravitz, and many more. Signed to Mack Avenue/Artistry Records, Mayo released his debut album BONES in 2021, produced by Grammy Award-winning producer Eli Wolf (Norah Jones, Al Green, The Roots). His highly anticipated sophomore album FLY, featuring Shai Maestro, Linda Oh, and Nate Smith, was released on October 4, 2024.
