Description
The religious art of the Cathedral is a reflection of the devotion and faith of the people who participated in its construction and interior ornamentation. "Patronages to adorn the house of God" stands as a visit that unites the various artistic expressions present in chapels or the current rooms and the main founders of chapels, to whom the richness of these spaces is due. This tour will begin with the oldest preserved work of the old cathedral, the Pantocrator and Calvary, from the 13th century, to advance as a timeline through the Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassicism impregnated in chapels and various selected works, some of them thanks to the aforementioned patronage and patronage. It is usually unknown that the cathedral councils offered the foundation of the chapels to important personalities, clergymen, noble families, for their burial and that of their relatives. In return, they were in charge of decorating them, investing large sums of money by hiring the best painters, sculptors, carvers and carvers, among others. Although everything depended on the economic potential of the founder. Proof of this is in the Cathedral where chapels such as the Immaculate Conception, Santiago Apostle or Juan de Juni are now exponents of art thanks to their patrons.
