The destiny of a Baroque composer is to write new music every day and end his days forgotten by all. Exaggerated? Maybe a little, but not that much. In these times, when music can't be recorded, when it's a living art that can only be experienced by playing it or going to a concert, when you have to "sell" your work to make a living from it, when you have to find patrons... you have to keep producing. You said baroque? but back then... it was contemporary music! We fall in love with this singer, that composer... then quickly move on to the next new thing. The enormity of the "catalogs" of all Baroque composers attests to the incessant pressure exerted on them. Once out of fashion, the author and his work were forgotten, and it wasn't until the great reinterpretation movement that began after 1945 that we rediscovered nuggets from the depths of Europe's oldest libraries. Vivaldi, Corelli, Muffat, et al... all forgotten for two centuries. Bach and Handel are the exceptions.
