Description
As well as being the lead singer and founding member of Irish rock band The Frames, Glen Hansard is part of folk duo The Swell Season with Czech pianist and vocalist Markéta Irglová. Together they shared the Oscar for Best Original Song for "Falling Slowly", from the movie "Once", in which they both starred. Among Hansard's solo albums, "Didn't He Ramble" (2015) received a Grammy nomination. The album's title, "All That Was East Is West of Me Now", which Hansard says derives from the "sudden realization that there is more behind than ahead", is a balance of how far we've come and what remains to be discovered. Although the passage of time may be a central theme, the narrative of the album's eight tracks focuses more on the promise of the future than on thoughts of regret or nostalgia. The journey is closer to its conclusion than its beginning, but Hansard isn't ready to stop yet; there are more mountains to climb, more terrain to explore.
