Exploring the ideas of national identity, the Phoenix Collective Quartet combines the music of Zoltán Kodály, Peter Sculthorpe and David Balakrishnan in concert. Kodály broke away from the tradition of German Romanticism, using Hungarian folk melodies as inspiration. Meanwhile, Sculthorpe offers an evocative exploration of the Australian landscape, something which completely contrasts with Balakrishnan's unique sounds of classical jazz.
