Really cool place to visit and see a USS carrier with so much history. Lots to see and do on the ship for adults and kids. The 5 min 3-D flight experience is a must do!! Clean restrooms. Food and drink available. Be prepared to do a lot of walking. Elevators are available.

About the venueUSS Midway Museum

The USS Midway was the longest-serving aircraft carrier in the 20th century. Named after the climactic Battle of Midway of June 1942, Midway was built in only 17 months, but missed World War II by one week when commissioned on September 10, 1945. Midway was the first in a three-ship class of large carriers that featured an armored flight deck and a powerful air group of 120 planes.

The Navy Pier lot next to the museum runs $15–$20 for up to 6 hours (more for special events and in summer). Metered street parking nearby has 2-3 hour limits, and there's an underground garage across the street for longer stays.

What are the opening hours?

The museum is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with last admission at 4:00 p.m. Closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.

How much time should I plan for?

The museum recommends spending 4 to 5 hours on board to see everything — restored aircraft, flight simulators, and the audio-guided tour of the ship. Same-day re-entry is allowed via the Visitor Information Center at the exit.

Who is this for? Is there a minimum age?

All ages are welcome. Kids under 6 and active-duty military with valid ID get in free.

What's the bag policy and dress code?

All visitors go through a bag check before boarding. Outside food/drink, glass containers, pets, bicycles, skateboards/scooters and weapons aren't allowed. Shirts and closed-toed shoes are required — expect ladders and uneven decks.

Is the museum wheelchair accessible?

Yes. Elevators connect the pier, Hangar Deck, Flight Deck and the deck below, wheelchair-accessible restrooms are available on the Hangar and Flight Decks, and complimentary wheelchairs can be borrowed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Is it accessible for blind, low-vision or Deaf visitors?

Yes — an ASL tour (closed-captioned, on a handheld touchscreen) and an Audio Descriptive tour for blind/low-vision guests are both included in admission. For the Audio Descriptive tour without a sighted companion, email VInfo@midway.org or call the Visitor Information Center at least 48 hours ahead to arrange a docent guide.
