Michaelmas Cay
Michaelmas Cay lies 33 kilometers east of Cairns within the Great Barrier Reef. This low-lying sand island formed over centuries through the accumulation of coral fragments and shells, stabilized by beach rock and hardy coastal vegetation. Protected as a national park, the cay serves as a major seabird habitat, having also hosted guano mining operations during the late 1800s.
